ABB PITÄJÄNMÄKI

I had my own exhibition in the canteen of ABB Pitäjänmäki. This was my first own exhibition. I chose nature to be the theme of the exhibition. Nature is the most inspiring theme to me. In my works I often have leaves and blooming nature. I decided to use as many techniques as possible. In my exhibition there were works made by kiln casting, glass fusing, stained glass and sand blasting. In the exhibition room there were different parts divided by walls. In these different parts I made works with different themes.

The exhibition was open from the 1st of April till the 30th of June 2019. This exhibition was a good example of my style as a designer. I make very detailed and very colourful works. My favourite work in this exhibition was a water lily plate. It was made by combining kiln casting and glass fusing. I glued the parts together with silicone clue. There was a place for a small candle in the middle of water lily flower.

The exhibtion is a good example of my versatility as a glass designer because I can combine different techniques in one work.

UTU - DARE TO AIM YOUR DREAMS

"UTU glass exhibition encourages you to reach for your dreams. At first there is only a misty image of the future, like students have in the beginning of their studies. A leap into the unknown is worth it. The glass exhibition is a brave indication of glass designing know-how and at the same time it shows the skill of the new designers."

An exhibition of glass and ceramics designing students from HAMK was opened on the 10th of May 2019 in the Finnish Glass Museum in Riihimäki. The exhibition was titled UTU – dare to aim your dreams. I was organizing this great exhibition with my classmates Riitta Koukkunen, Niina Rosell, Milja Maltolahti and Suvi Vartiainen. We planned the exhibition concept and built the exhibition. 31 glass and ceramics designing students from different courses participated in this exhibition. The exhibition was open from the 11th of May until 25th of August 2019.

I think we succeeded in building the exhibition. The concept of the exhibition succeeded in creating the name and story of the exhibition. Although there were many different kinds of works in the exhibition, they all fitted well the concept of the exhibition in reaching for dreams, because every student has his or her own dream to reach. We divided the works in different categories according to usage and colours and succeeded in producing a consistent feeling in the exhibition.

My work The Desert was in the exhibition. There are 15 die kiln casted glass cacti in the work. The idea comes from the fact that in my home there are even more severe conditions than in the desert. Not even cacti can survive it. I wanted to design durable cacti so that I can get something green in my home other than plastic.

PIHKA (RESIN) AT URKIN PIILOPIRTTI, PINSIÖ

My work is part of the Winter Garden exhibition which was ordered by Urkin Piilopirtti from Pinsiö. Each participant was given a tree species because the works will be places next to a staircase in vicinity of which there are almost all the tree species in Finland. My tree species was spruce. I was inspired immediately by the resin of spruce, because in certain light it looks like glass.

At first, I contemplated the healing effects of resin, but then I remembered a Finnish saying of resin which means being in love. I decided to build my idea of the work on this saying. I was also inspired by the flowability and transparence of resin

After sketching the work, I decided to use two combining metal pipes with 7 glass drops hanging from them. One is hanging at the end of the pipes and the others hand at regular intervals along the pipes (3 glass drops on each).

I chose a purple colour, which is light purple in the lower parts and gets darker towards the ends of the pipes. The glass drop at the end of the pipes is the darkest. I chose the purple colour because I think it fits well together with the greenness of the nature. Purple is said to be the most spiritual colour, it purifies and brings peace and love.

The story of the work is built on the Finnish saying of falling in love. I think the saying describes well the feeling when you fall in love. Resin is sticky, so it sticks to you easily and suddenly. This is the same thing that happens when you fall in love, because you never know when you fall in love with somebody.

In the work two combine with one another and become one unity. The glass drops of the work have resin on them, therefore according to the Finnish saying they fall in love. The glass drops get darker when they get closer to one another like falling in love gets stronger with time.

The Finnish saying “olla pihkassa” is a good example of the diversity of the Finnish language. The saying works only in Finnish and it cannot be translated into English. I wanted to have this angle in my work because I think the Finnish language is interesting and rich in all its sayings.

The glass parts were made by Mafka & Alakoski ja the metal parts by Arto Laine from AL-monityö.

This is a permanent exhibition and hasn't yet to open.

ONNEN  KANTAMOINEN

Onnenkantamoinen was the first exhibition in which I participated. We organised the exhibition by the glass art course in Jamilahti and it was situated in 7on Ltd’s premises. We learnt a lot of stained glass technique and also glass fusing, mosaic and came glasswok.

In the exhibition I had works made with all these techniques. The most impressive was my work The Lion, which is 100 cm x 67 cm in size. The work is made by stained glass technique and it has 350 pieces. There were pictures of my work in many local papers which wrote about our exhibition.
